4th Grade Goes Back In Time

Posted Date: 02/09/26 (01:50 PM)

Our 4th grade students recently stepped back in time while exploring real-life connections to the book A Land Remembered. Through hands-on pioneer and livestock activities, the story truly came alive for them.
Page and Jordan Wahlquist visited the class and shared how the book connects to pioneer life and working with livestock. They brought along a rooster and chickens, teaching the students about the different types of eggs they lay and explaining tools that pioneers would have used in their daily lives. The students were fascinated to see and touch items that helped them better understand history beyond the pages of their book.
One of the highlights of the day was meeting Clara Bell, the mama cow. The students got to feed her treats and learn about caring for livestock. They also met Clementine, the baby calf, and a few lucky students even had the chance to feed her a bottle and pet her. These moments gave the children a special appreciation for farm life and responsibility.
To round out the experience, students tried their hand at lassoing bull figures and climbed onto a saddle to see what it might feel like to ride. The activities were full of laughter, learning, and excitement.
This immersive experience helped students connect literature to real-world history, pioneer skills, and animal care in a way they will not soon forget. We are so grateful to Page and Jordan Wahlquist for sharing their time and knowledge and for making learning come alive.
